Finally – Great Ruler Storage

Annie Unrein to the rescue! We all have been looking for a great way to store – and carry – our rulers. This ruler wrap is perfect!

In your sewing room, it is designed to hang on the back of a door in all of its 72″ glory. There is a multitude of pockets to hold the rulers AND a pocket designed to hold a cutting mat.

It can be folded up to two sizes – one if you are transporting a mat and the other for rulers.

What a great basis for a class! Machine quilt the foundation, learn how to insert zippers, use mesh, bind units, install hardware…okay a series of classes!

An Abundance of Annie

In case you hadn’t noticed, Patterns by Annie is now simply By Annie – because that gal has her act together!  She is providing everything you need to create professional looking bags – Soft and Stable, hardware; zippers, mesh, fold over elastic, strapping, and the perfect design for every occasion!

She was the hit of Market and instantly had five patterns in the top 100!

Did you realize that 20 of the top 100 patterns are bags???  If you aren’t offering a bag of the month club, you are not meeting your customer’s needs!  Who can make just one?  When their friends and family see them, they will ALL want one – and may take a class for the first time because they may find it less intimidating than a quilt!  What a great way to gain new customers!

Finally – A Fabric Mesh!

It is no surprise that Annie Unrein of Patterns by Annie has created the perfect mesh for all of your purses, totes, and storage needs!  Vinyl mesh has been around for a long time and still is the best choice for some applications.

But this polyester mesh is easy to sew; soft and pliant – the perfect choice for pockets so you can see what is inside.

Organize your Rulers Today

Having the right tool for the job applies to quilters too.  I have learned that the right ruler can save time and money – as well as guarantee that my final project will be something I can be proud of.  Storing them, however, has been a problem – until now!

Item #194RK  Retail $10.00

As you can see, it is made to fit over a hanger so you can now “hang” your rulers so they are easily accessible and protected.  An added bonus?  The clutter has been removed from your cutting table!

The pockets are designed to hold 12 and 24 inch rectangles as well as squares from 6 to 12 inches as well as a rotary cutter.  Adjust the pockets as needed.

In my case, I have a LOT of Creative Grids® specialty rulers so I need to include more than one ruler in each pocket.  Annie Unrein of Patterns by Annie has created a polyester mesh that is lightweight and the perfect divider for these pockets.

In a clutch, choose Annie Unrein

Frankly, I was always intimidated by Annie Unrein’s patterns.  After all, I saw the samples – and they were perfect.  She is an expert seamstress and teaches threadology classes.  I bet she even makes tailored clothes!

But then, I saw her demonstrate at Road to California – and she made it look so simple that I thought I should give it a try.

As soon as I got home, I ordered her iCases pattern.  This one has a zippered pocket to hold the cord and has instructions for two sizes – exactly what I needed.PBA218 Item #PBA218  Retail $9.95

Annie has created a technique that makes all of her bags doable by anyone – even me!  It turns out that you create everything in panels.  Then the panels are placed on top of each other and bound together like a quilt – now that I can do.

And I did!  And now, I feel like my last name should be Bradley.  Friends came over last night and thought I bought my first project.  I consider that a win!

Soft and Stable – another Annie product – provides just the right amount of body and made the binding lay perfectly.
PBASS2018 Item #PBASS2018  Retail $11.95

Why not add some of these projects to your class schedule?  Once they see how easy it is, they will want to make more.  I immediately ordered three more patterns.  These will make great gits – and I already know I can’t stop at just one!

These “Open Wide” Pouches come in three sizes.

A Few of My Finds at Market

Annie Unrein has created the perfect stiletto and pressing tool.  My favorite part?  The quality wooden handle has flat sides so it doesn’t roll off of my sewing table.  And, the tip is rough – kind of like a metal sandpaper – so it holds the fabric without slipping.  Annie uses a stiletto every time she sews – and if you have seen her samples, there is no denying the quality of her workmanship!  This is an heirloom quality pieced that will last a lifetime.

Who can resist Downton Abbey?  I, for one, am anxiously awaiting the new season premier in January.

Tiffany Hayes of “Needle in a Hayes Stack” has created a series of patterns that would look at home in any abbey.

Why not turn this into an event and host a series of classes based on these quilts inspired by your favorite characters.

Meet the Vendors – Part One

My favorite part of Open House is working with our vendors!  It is like going to summer camp.  Within three days, we all become friends and establish relationships that will benefit the entire industry for years to come!  And, then we get to share our friends with you!!!

Our event is different because it is all based on education!  All of the vendors are there to answer questions, teach you about their products, and give you demo and class ideas that you can take back to your shops and embrace immediately!  Why not learn from the best????  I will go into more detail about each vendor in later posts, but I couldn’t resist sharing more pictures of an incredible event – and my favorite tip!

Marti Michel

Marti gave a lecture on Sunday and had a booth so she could share her products, demos and class ideas one on one with our customers for two days!  She has so many products, I can’t simply focus on one:  //www.checkerdist.com/products/search?keywords=marti+michel&relatedto=

Annie Unrein of Patterns by Annie

Annie gave a Saturday lecture and also manned a booth for two days.  I learned so much from her!  Did you know that her zippers have wider tape on each side so you can sew a one quarter inch seam on each side without hitting the zipper pull or stop????  Genius:  //www.checkerdist.com/products/search?page=7&sort=score

Kathy and Gerald Purdy of Steady Betty

These folks drove all the way from Texas to take part in this event – and were an absolute delight.  I love all of their products but did not know if I press machine or hand embroidery on their pressing pads, there is no puckering or shadow through – and they hold the fabric when hooping!  To see all of their products:  //www.checkerdist.com/products/search?keywords=Steady+Betty&relatedto=

Sue Marsh and Bernie Wing of Whistlepig Creek

Their iPad or Kindle cover is the perfect class for quick and easy Christmas presents.  It is a great opportunity to teach your customers about interfacings – and the cover can be embellished in a multitude of ways.  Your customers will be making them by the dozen!  You will love their other patterns and books as well:  //www.checkerdist.com/products/search?keywords=whistlepig&relatedto=

Sue and Herb Hausmann

Sue can sell anything because she knows the best products – and can tell you why you need them!  Her tip – the Frixion pens now come in clickable versions.  In Sue’s words, “Why would you buy the other version when you loose the cap all of the time?”  Well, Sue, good point:  //www.checkerdist.com/products/F5765

Susan O’Very of Sealed with a Stitch

I don’t have an embroidery machine – but now I want one!  Susan’s designs are so well done and reasonably priced that all shops should carry them!  Even if you don’t sell machines, your customers own them – so why not have them buy the supporting products from you???  Her quilt label designs are the perfect demo to sell machines:  //www.checkerdist.com/products/search?keywords=Sealed+with+a+Stitch&relatedto=
