A Rotary Cutter Blade Sharpener that Actually Works

I’ve been at this a long time, so when this product was first introduced, I didn’t believe it.  I had bought other brands in the past – and was sorely disappointed!  But then, at Market, Rita was demonstrating this new product and she guaranteed it really worked!

Now, Rita is the “Demo Goddess” of Creative Grid and has never steered me wrong in the past, but skeptic that I am, I needed proof.  It was just too good to be true.

She took a dull blade that we were using for demonstrations – and, by George, she was right!  USA Sharpeners has created an “orbital rotary cutter blade sharpener” that works.  That’s a mouthful, isn’t it!  But, you don’t even have to remember all of that – it’s just Item #USA1032.

It works like an old fashioned record player – which means some of you won’t even know what that means!  The blade is placed on a spindle.  A grinding diamond wheel is then turned over the blade to sharpen it.  The wheels come in two textures – rough and fine.  In just a few minutes you’ll have a sharp blade and will have saved the price of a new blade!

I love a creative design – and this one produces in spades!  All of the parts click into the bottom of the sharpener so you don’t lose a thing.  There is an adapter for Olfa blades as well as 60mm blades.  The grinding tools are also stored in the base.

The response to this product has been so great that they have already designed a prototype to sharpen 18mm and 28mm blades!  We’ll let you know as soon as it is available.

I guarantee if you demo it in a class, everyone will buy one!   Treat yourself to a new gadget that will save you money – you’ll be glad you did!

  1. I recently bought one of these and found it to be an utter failure. I contacted the manufacturer whose response was:
“We have learned that there are poor quality low carbon rotary blades that just simply will not sharpen well because of the soft metal edge rolling over. The Olfa blades and a few others re-sharpen very well in our experience.”
Well, I had dull OLFA blades in stock and this product did NOT sharpen them AT ALL. I spent over an hour on one OLFA blade and the final product would not even cut thru 2 layers of broad cloth, or 4 layers of copy machine paper.
The retail price of this product is nearly $30. It was a complete waste of my time and money.

  2. I am surprised that S. Hen had no luck with her rotary blade sharpener. I love mine, and I bought it on the recommendation of a friend who loves hers too.

  3. I bought one of these on the recommendation from my favorite quilt store. She said she had been using this one and it worked beautifully! She was absolutely right! It is one of the best things ever invented. Maybe S Hen got a “lemon” or wasn’t using properly. Many fellow quilters at our large quilting guild rave about this wonderful money saving item!

  4. I bought one of these and my husband and I have just spent 3 hours trying to sharpen an Olfa 60 mm blade that was a little dull and had a few places where it didn’t cut completely through several layers of fabric. Now the blade won’t even cut through 1 layer of fabric. The sharpener really made the blade extremely dull and unusable. What a complete waste of time and money when my hopes were so high.

  5. How do you use this sharpener? I have one and it will not do anything but ruin the blades. Do you apply pressure as you rotate the sharpener or just let it rotate freely? Does it sharpen the Martilli ergo rotary blades?

  6. I don’t know whether to be sad or glad that others have had the same experience of having this gadget ruin blades. I’m sorry because I really wanted this to work, but glad to see that it isn’t just me. Honestly, it turned the equivalent of a steak knife (if not a chef’s knife) into something like a butter knife that didn’t even score a single layer of fabric. The people at the company were very nice about sending different parts, but nothing seemed to make a difference.

  7. I am so disappointed with this product, I have tried several blades and all are ruined, won’t even cut one layer of fabric now. Waste of money!

  8. Podrían enseñar por Youtube como se usa el afilador ya que a tampoco me ha resultado, solo me ha echado a perder mas las cuchillas, antes cortaban un poco la tela, pero después de de afilarla con el aparato no corta absolutamente nada.
