Sisterhood of Scraps

This is a new book compilation by Lissa Alexander.

In their own words: “What happens when famed quilt designer Lissa Alexander invites her quilting heroines to create scrap quilts alongside her? Scrapalicious magic! Lissa reached out to celebrity ‘sister’ quilters from all walks of life and proposed a theme; then she and each designer made their own version of a quilt based on that theme. The result? Spectacular scrap quilts from true masters of the craft, and an invitation for all quilters to join the Sisterhood of Scraps! Create a dozen stunning quilts inspired by everything from simple squares to Trip Around the World designs (one assembled from a 34-year-old scrap stash!). Quilters can start a quilting bee, build a community, and bring new sisters into the fold as they make these stunning projects. Also inside is a Sisterhood of Scraps certificate that quilters can hang in their sewing space to show that they’re a proud member of the Sisterhood.”

Love is Just Around the Corner

Quilt shops always have to be one holiday ahead of their customers! After all, they have to have time to sew and quilt that project! These patterns by J Michelle Watts Designs may be just the ticket.

A Scrappy Kind of Love includes two size options. The smaller size can be made with 1 1/2″ strips, the larger twin size can be made with 2 1/2″ strips. Alternate cutting instructions for 10″ squares is also provided so this makes a great stash busting quilt!

A Scrappy Kind Of Love

Cross My Heart also gives two size options:

CROSS MY HEART

And then there is my favorite – Have a Heart:

Have A Heart

Four of Hearts could be the perfect gift for that family of four!

Pull out your red and blue fabrics and make a display. And remember, some of those Christmas lines can be used year round so add those to the display as well.

Scrap Crazy Modern

Scraps never looked so good! Terri Faust combines a traditional Bear Paw block with the Creative Grids® Scrap Crazy 8 set for spectacular results!

The Scrap Crazy Bear Paw Quilt from Cut Loose Press™ #CLPTFA001 finished quilt measures 64 x 71 inches. Big blocks have never been so dramatic! The colors are cut from 37 print 10-inch squares. The four main squares of each block are pieced with the Creative Grids® Scrap Crazy 8 inch Template set.

But she doesn’t stop there. Terri uses one of the templates to piece the border – simply charming!

Minis are Marvelous!

This series of mini quilt patterns are due to arrive next month and are a great way to use up scraps AND perfect your piecing skills. But don’t panic because these little babies are paper-pieced!

All of the quilts measure just six by eight inches! And the patterns are very reasonably priced – that was an unexpected surprise!

Sherri Hisey has developed her own line of foundation paper. It has a rough texture so it doesn’t slide under the pressure foot and comes in two sizes. Both can be run through a printer so no tracing required!

I can’t wait to try this! Why not teach a paper-piecing class and let the students try it? What a great use of those 2-1/2 inch squares and other mini pre-cuts!

Hope’s Journey

Hope’s Journey combines stories of quilters along with quilts and block patterns in a new and exciting way. The cover quilt combines many of these patterns into what I call an orphan block quilt.

Betsy Chutchian combines 28 block patterns in a variety of sizes to create these puzzle-piece style sampler quilts. She actually combines four different layouts to make it even easier.

Each chapter includes stories of pioneer women who were on a journey to find a better life. Along the way, Betsy has shared 11 small quilts that would be spectacular additions to the decor of a bedroom featuring the cover quilt. Here is just a sampling of the “littles”….

Can you imagine sleeping every night surrounded by such beauty?

Scrap Basket Bounty

The Scrap Basket series written by Kim Brackett continues with her latest addition, Scrap-Basket Bounty.

This book features sixteen different blocks. Each block includes three different layouts so there are a total of 48 projects in the book! Now that is a bargain! Here are just some of the surprises inside….

Choose a background fabric and let your scraps shine! This would be a great sew-in. Everyone can bring their scraps to cut – and share. Seeing the different layout options and colorways are sure to inspire everyone. Have plenty of fat quarter bundles available. After all, some of us love scrap quilts but don’t have the stash YET to create them!
